Types of Particle Board

The particle boards produced by our company mainly include the following types:

OSB Particleboard

OSB (Oriented Strand Board) and particleboard are engineered wood products, but OSB uses larger, oriented wood strands for structural strength (like walls/roofs), while particleboard uses smaller wood chips/dust for less demanding uses (furniture), with OSB being stronger, denser, and more moisture-resistant than basic particleboard, though still prone to swelling in wet conditions compared to plywood.

MDF Particleboard

MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) and particle board (or chipboard) are both engineered wood products made from wood waste mixed with resin, but MDF uses finer wood fibers for a denser, smoother, stronger panel, while particle board uses larger wood chips, making it lighter, cheaper, and less durable, especially with moisture.

Advantages of Particle Board

01/

Affordability
They are more cost-effective compared to solid wood or plywood, making them an excellent choice for budget-conscious projects.

02/

Versatility
They can be used in various applications, including furniture, cabinetry, flooring, and wall paneling. They can be easily cut, shaped, and drilled to meet specific design requirements.

03/

Sustainability
These laminates are an eco-friendly alternative to solid wood, as they are made from recycled wood waste.

04/

Stability
They have excellent dimensional stability, meaning they are less prone to warping or shrinking due to changes in humidity or temperature.

05/

Easy Installation
Particle laminated boards are lightweight and easy to handle, making them convenient for DIY projects. They can be easily installed using screws, nails, or adhesives.

06/

Lightweight
They are lighter than solid wood, making them easier to handle and install.

Applications of Particle Board

Countertops:

With laminate or melamine finish, particle boards are used for economical kitchen and bathroom countertops.

Furniture manufacturing:

Used in making tables, chairs, wardrobes, and modular furniture due to their cost-effectiveness.

Cabinets and shelving:

Common in kitchen cabinets, office furniture, and bookshelves when laminated or veneered.

Flooring underlayment:

Provides a flat, stable base under carpets, vinyl, or laminate flooring.

Wall paneling and partitions:

Ideal for decorative wall panels and lightweight room dividers.

Doors:

Lightweight particle board cores are often used in flush doors.

Packaging:

Low density boards are used for crates and boxes.

Precautions for Using Particle Board

Use the Right Tools for Cutting
Particle board can be prone to chipping along the edges when cut. Using the right tools and techniques will help you achieve cleaner, more professional cuts.

Pre-Drill Holes to Avoid Splitting
Particle board can split easily if screws are inserted directly without pre-drilling, especially near the edges.

Seal Edges to Prevent Moisture Damage
Particle board is highly susceptible to moisture, which can cause it to swell and deteriorate over time. Sealing the edges protects against moisture and helps maintain the board’s durability.

Reinforce Joints and Corners

Particle board can be weaker than other wood materials, especially in high-stress areas like joints and corners.

Finish with a Protective Coating
A good finish can improve particle board’s resistance to wear, moisture, and scratches.

Prevent Sagging in Shelves
Particle board tends to sag under heavy weight, especially when used for shelving.

Our Service

Pre-Sales: Precise Matching And Customized Solutions

In-depth Needs Analysis: We provide one-on-one dedicated customer service, conducting a thorough analysis of your needs based on environmental standards in your region (e.g., EU E0 standard, US CARB certification), application scenarios (residential/commercial), and purchase volume, resulting in a personalized needs analysis report.

Sample and Technical Support: We offer 3-5 free samples of different specifications, along with detailed test reports (including formaldehyde emission, abrasion resistance, moisture content, etc.). Our technical team can remotely assist with sample testing and answer questions about processing techniques.

Cost and Delivery Time Calculation: Based on your purchase list, we accurately calculate FOB and CIF prices, and provide sea/air freight solutions and estimated delivery times to help you optimize your purchasing costs.

During Production: Transparent And Controllable Process

Real-time Order Tracking: Customers can monitor production progress in real time through our dedicated system (from raw material storage to production, quality inspection, and packaging). Key stages are tracked with photos/videos to ensure production meets expectations.

Strict Quality Control: We implement a three-level quality control system (raw material inspection, in-process sampling, and final product inspection). 100% of non-conforming products are rejected, and a quality certificate is issued for each batch to guarantee export compliance.

Dedicated Export Services: Our professional team assists with customs clearance, inspection, certificate of origin, and other procedures. We provide packaging solutions that meet destination country requirements (moisture-proof, damage-proof, English labeling) and coordinate logistics to ensure timely shipment.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between particle board and plywood?

A: Particle board contains wood particles and sawdust pressed together under heat and then glued together. Whereas, plywood is also engineered wood, but has fibers and glue. In comparison, particle boards are lightweight, more durable than plywood, and a better choice.

Q: Is particle board considered a flimsy building material?

A: Since particle boards are made of wood shavings and chips, they aren’t as strong as natural wood or MDF. Over time, with exposure to moisture or adversity, they will start to damage. Besides, they have a low capacity. However, they last quite long when placed indoors.

Q: How is particle board different from composite wood?

A: While composite wood or plywood is stronger with higher densities like the oriented strand board (OSB), they aren’t as cost-effective as plywood. Although lighter, particle boards are a better choice for woodwork where strength isn’t important.

Q: Can I screw straight into particle board?

A: No plugs in wood! So you should screw directly in with any wood screw of your choice. Particle boards can tend to crack, so it's often a good idea to pre-drill the holes. Use a drill bit that is a little smaller than the ``core'' of the screw and it will work perfectly.

Q: Is particle board ruined if it gets wet?

A: Particle board is basically irreparably ruined whenever it gets wet. So there's not really any way to restore it to how it was before.

Q: How long will a particle board last?

A: Particle board furniture generally lasts 5-10 years, but can range from 1-3 years for low-quality items to potentially 15 years with high quality and careful use, depending heavily on moisture exposure, construction, and maintenance; it's very susceptible to swelling, warping, and crumbling from water, limiting its lifespan compared to solid wood.
