China's rapid economic growth has been a strong driving force for demand in the plywood market. The influx of fast-growing, high-yield timber from North China, East China, and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, along with the continuous supply of high-quality hardwood from abroad, provides abundant raw materials for the ongoing development of China's plywood industry. Ample human resources are also a crucial factor contributing to China's cost advantage in developing its plywood industry compared to other plywood producing countries. The quality of Chinese plywood products has also improved significantly, making them increasingly competitive in the international market. China is not only a major plywood exporter but also the world's largest plywood producer.
From January to December 2006, China's plywood manufacturing industry achieved a total industrial output value of RMB 75,819,437,000, a 39.83% increase compared to the same period in 2005; total product sales revenue reached RMB 72,163,513,000, a 39.25% increase compared to the same period in 2005; and total profits reached RMB 3,198,494,000, a 60.41% increase compared to the same period in 2005.
From January to November 2007, China's plywood manufacturing industry achieved a total industrial output value of RMB 101,828,484 thousand, a 48.27% increase compared to the same period of the previous year; total product sales revenue reached RMB 96,534,099 thousand, a 48.87% increase compared to the same period of the previous year; and total profits reached RMB 4,732,364 thousand, a 70.26% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
Although China's plywood industry has developed rapidly, it still faces anti-dumping complaints from the EU and other importing countries. Therefore, Chinese plywood companies and industry organizations must strengthen communication with importers, enhance corporate self-discipline, and regulate export operations. With the expansion of China's infrastructure construction and the intensification of development efforts in the central and western regions, the market potential for plywood is enormous.
